HD describes the death of her sister, Leonora, who died of consumption at age 6 and whose death was kept secret until HD left the house at age 16. She describes her work as a chambermaid at the Strand Palace Hotel in London where she worked for a few months before leaving for Cardiff at age 17. [00:19:30] HD talks about first arriving in Cardiff and meeting Annie Webb. She describes the houses in the area, the layout of the streets, and the cosmopolitan community of Tiger Bay.
